The Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) is a landmark document adopted by the United Nations in 1948. It sets out, for the first time, the fundamental rights and freedoms that belong to every person, everywhere. Described in the booklet’s introduction as a “powerful tool” that affirms the equal dignity of all people (pp. iii–vii), the UDHR has become the most translated document in the world and a global reference point for justice, freedom, and equality.
Its 30 articles outline essential rights, from freedom of expression and equality before the law to education, participation, and cultural life, forming the foundation for peaceful, democratic societies. This illustrated edition brings these principles to life in an accessible way, inviting people of all ages to learn, reflect, and take action to protect human rights for all.
